Canada has opened up two new PR visa pathways for caregivers, allowing them to live permanently in the country. Applications for the Home Support Worker and Home Child Care Provider Pilots will be accepted from June 18, 2019. These have also taken the place of the now-expired Caring for People with Special Medical Needs and Caring for Children pilots.

Only caregivers with a job offer will be granted a Canada Work Visa. They must also meet the standards for economic immigration programs as a whole. They will obtain the required two years of work experience in Canada after working in the country. According to CIC News, caregivers will be eligible to apply for a PR Visa as a result of this. Caregivers will benefit from the new pilots in the following ways:

Home Health Aide

  • Canada's occupation-specific Occupation Work visas aren't tied to a single employer. If necessary, this will allow for a rapid change of employers
  • For family members of caregivers, study visas and open work visas are available to let families reunite in Canada.
  • In Canada, there is a clear shift from provisional to permanent status. This is to guarantee that caregivers may get a PR visa promptly after completing the required work experience.

The new pilot programs provide a straight and clear pathway to a PR visa in Canada for overseas caregivers and their family members. Canada is committed to improving the lives of immigrants and encouraging middle-class jobs. Pilots that have finished their course have stopped accepting new applications as of June 18, 2019. Caregivers whose applications were submitted previous to this date will have their applications processed further. This is the end step before making a final choice.

Caregivers who were planning to apply to the pilots that have already expired can now do so through the two new pilots. The Home Support Worker Pilot or the Home Child Care Provider Pilot are two options.

Caregivers who came to Canada as provisional overseas workers after 2014 can use the Interim Pathway for Caregivers. These, on the other hand, were ineligible for a PR visa under any existing scheme. This program will be extended for a third time, resuming on July 8, 2019, and accepting three-month applications.

The new Home Support Worker and Home Child Care Provider pilots will each have a limit of 2,750 primary applicants. This brings the total number of primary candidates to 5,500 every year, including their immediate family members. The applications for the two new pilots would initially have a processing time of 12 months. Following the completion of the application, a 6-month processing standard will be applied. This happens when the Caregiver provides proof that they meet the job experience criteria.

Before hiring an overseas Caregiver, employers are no longer required to obtain a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). It is due to the occupation-specific Work Visas given under the Home Support Worker and Home Child Care Provider pilots.
